Rank Tracker Pricing: The Cost of One Keyword

Every rank tracker is sold on features and bought on allowances. The arithmetic that makes six vendors comparable, and the three things that break it.

Divide a plan's monthly price by the keywords it lets you track and you get the only figure that makes rank trackers comparable. On the prices published on 24 September 2026 that figure runs from about six cents to about twenty-eight cents a keyword a month — a spread of more than four times for tools doing broadly the same job.

The reason nobody markets this number is that it makes the suites look expensive and the dedicated trackers look narrow, and neither vendor wants the comparison framed that way.

The arithmetic, tool by tool

SE Ranking, Core plan: $129.00 a month for 2,000 keywords tracked daily. That is about $0.06 a keyword, and about $0.05 on annual billing at $103.20 a month.

AccuRanker, Professional: $224 a month, keyword tiers of 2,000, 3,000 and 5,000. At the 2,000 floor that is about $0.11; at the 5,000 tier of the same plan it falls to about $0.04, which is the cheapest figure anywhere in this comparison.

Ahrefs, Lite: $129 a month with 750 keywords in Rank Tracker, about $0.17. Standard at $249 holds 2,000, about $0.12; Advanced at $449 holds 5,000, about $0.09.

Nightwatch, Starter: €79 a month for 500 keywords, about €0.16. Professional at €159 for 2,500 is about €0.06, and Agency at €399 for 7,500 is about €0.05.

Semrush, SEO plan: $139 a month with 500 keywords to track daily, about $0.28 — the dearest on the board, because tracking is one module of a suite you are buying whole. Pro+ at $299 for 1,500 is about $0.20 and Advanced at $549 for 5,000 about $0.11.

Mangools cannot be placed. Its plans page names Basic, Premium and Agency but publishes no price in the page itself, which is covered in full in the SERPWatcher review.

What that comparison tells you

Read it as a curve rather than a league table. Every vendor here gets cheaper per keyword as you climb, and several of them cross each other: AccuRanker is nearly twice Semrush's price at the headline and less than half its cost per keyword at the same plan level.

Which means the question is never "which tracker is cheapest". It is "which plan, at my list size, is cheapest", and the answer moves as the list grows. A team at 400 keywords and the same team at 4,000 should quite possibly buy different tools.

The three things that break the arithmetic

Allowances come in steps. You cannot buy 700 keywords; you buy the step that contains 700 and throw away the rest. At 700 keywords SE Ranking's Core plan bills the full $129.00 for 2,000, so your real cost per keyword is about $0.18, not $0.06. The published figure is a best case that only arrives when you fill the plan.

Seats are priced separately, or not at all. SE Ranking's Core plan includes one manager seat and Growth at $279.00 includes three. Nightwatch charges nothing per seat on any plan. Semrush lists Additional Users at $45 a month. A three-person team can reverse the whole ordering above before a single keyword is tracked.

Frequency is not always in the price. Daily checking is published at the entry plan by SE Ranking, AccuRanker and Nightwatch. Where a vendor does not publish cadence per plan, as Mangools does not, the per-keyword figure is comparing different products: a keyword checked weekly is not a keyword checked daily, whatever the allowance says.

The add-ons that change the sum

Two of these vendors sell capabilities separately that others bundle, and they are easy to miss when comparing headline prices.

SE Ranking prices AI Search at $89.00 a month on monthly billing or $71.20 on annual, an Agency Pack at $69.00 a month on annual billing only, and API access at $45.00 a month on annual billing only. Added to a $129.00 Core plan, the AI Search add-on alone more than doubles what you pay per keyword.

Semrush lists Additional Users at $45 a month, Lead Generation at $90, and two report add-ons at $10 and $20. AccuRanker takes a different approach and puts its API depth, Google Data Studio access and BigQuery integration inside the higher plans rather than selling them separately, which is more expensive at the entry tier and simpler to budget.

Annual billing, honestly

The published discounts on this board are 20% at SE Ranking, 17% at Ahrefs and 10% at AccuRanker. Nightwatch's annual figures — €948 a year on Starter against €79 a month — come to the same twelve months, so its annual option is a billing convenience rather than a discount.

None of those is large enough to justify committing before you have used the tool with your own keywords. Twenty per cent of $129.00 is about $26 a month; a tracker you stop opening costs $129.00 a month forever. Buy monthly, use it for a full billing cycle with a real list, and move to annual at the first renewal if it has become part of your week.

The one-minute version

Count the keywords you track now, add the ones you will add in six months, find the cheapest plan that contains that number, and then check three things: how many people need a seat, whether the cadence you need is included, and what the add-on you will inevitably want costs. That is the whole purchase.

If the number you counted was small — a few dozen — do the same exercise with nothing at all, because the free options may cover it and the cheapest cost per keyword available is zero.

Pricing questions

What is the cheapest rank tracker per keyword?
On published entry plans read 24 September 2026, SE Ranking's Core plan at $129.00 a month for 2,000 daily keywords works out cheapest at about six cents each. Within a single plan the cheapest figure anywhere is AccuRanker's Professional tier used at its 5,000-keyword step, about four cents, because the price stays at $224 while the allowance triples. Which one wins depends entirely on how many keywords you actually track.
Why is Semrush so expensive per tracked keyword?
Because tracking is one module of a suite rather than the product. Its entry SEO plan is $139 a month with 500 keywords to track daily, about twenty-eight cents each, and the price is buying keyword research, site audits, backlink data and the rest alongside. If you want all of that, the per-keyword figure is the wrong lens; if tracking is all you need, it is exactly the right one.
Does the cost per keyword get cheaper on bigger plans?
Always, and often steeply. Ahrefs runs from about seventeen cents at Lite to about nine cents at Advanced, Nightwatch from about sixteen cents at Starter to about five at Agency, and AccuRanker from about eleven cents to about four within the same Professional plan. The catch is that allowances come in steps, so a half-filled plan costs much more per keyword than the published figure suggests.
Should I pay annually for a rank tracker?
Not until you have used it for a full month with your own keywords. The published annual discounts here are 20% at SE Ranking, 17% at Ahrefs and 10% at AccuRanker, and Nightwatch's annual price is simply twelve months of the monthly one. A fifth off is real money, but it is smaller than the cost of committing a year to a tool that turns out not to fit the way you work.

The whole board, ordered by what one tracked keyword costs, is on the rank tracker comparison. If what you need to watch is AI answers rather than the ten blue links, start at AI search visibility trackers instead.
